Short answer: Sound Forge 2026 is the latest version, but it is not a feature-packed Pro 19. The core proposition is recognisable in both versions: sample-level waveform editing, recording and processing of up to 32 channels, restoration, metering, batch processing, VST/ARA support and event-based non-destructive editing. What Changed When Boris FX Took Over
Boris FX announced the acquisition of Sound Forge, VEGAS Pro and ACID Pro from MAGIX in March 2026. There is no Sound Forge Pro 19: the numbered MAGIX name became the year-based Sound Forge 2026, and Pro Suite became Sound Forge Plus.

Your old license is not cancelled. Boris FX says a MAGIX lifetime license remains valid. It also says prior serials should appear in a Boris FX account created with the same email used for the MAGIX purchase, so the store can establish upgrade eligibility.
That appearance in the new account does not move installation management away from MAGIX. Boris FX’s legacy instructions still send users to the MAGIX Service Center to download old installers and deactivate previous installations. If a Pro 18 serial has not appeared in the Boris FX account, contact support instead of creating duplicate accounts with different email addresses.
Sound Forge and Sound Forge Plus Replace Pro and Suite
The base current edition contains the editor: waveform editing, peak and loudness metering, coreFX and essentialFX, dynamic EQ, VST2/VST3/ARA, click and clipping repair, broadband noise reduction, local Text-to-Speech, multichannel work, automatic record start, batch processing and event mode.
Sound Forge Plus adds four named products:

The original Pro 18 announcement listed Ozone 11 Elements and RX 10 Elements with the 2024 release. It explicitly marked 3D Reverb, dynamicEQ oversampling and Melodyne Essential 5 as Pro 18 Suite exclusives. Separate Suite offers also listed SpectraLayers Pro 10, Vandal, VariVerb II and other bundle content.
The current Boris FX matrix names neither Ozone nor RX in either tier, and it names no SpectraLayers entitlement. Your existing Pro 18 license remains valid, but a bundled third-party product can have its own account, serial and activation rules. Price, Upgrade & Support, and the December Deadline
The March 2026 acquisition announcement listed Sound Forge at $299.95 perpetual and Sound Forge Plus at $399.95 perpetual. It listed the Upgrade & Support plan for legacy owners at $189.95 and $249.95 respectively. Boris FX said the simplified legacy upgrade offer would run through December 5, 2026.
Those are announced US prices, not a promise about tax, currency conversion or a live cart months later. Check the current pricing page and Boris FX store immediately before payment.
Boris FX describes Upgrade & Support as an annual program. A perpetual license or upgrade includes 12 months of upgrades and support; the license itself continues to work if the support contract expires. The official Upgrade & Support terms say the plan auto-renews unless cancelled and that a lapsed plan can be subject to reinstatement pricing. Read the cart terms rather than treating “perpetual” as “every future version forever.”
Windows 11 and the 15-Day Trial
The current system requirements list Windows 11, a 1.4 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM with 8 GB recommended, and 1,100 MB for Sound Forge or 1,400 MB for Plus. Pro 18’s published baseline included Windows 10 and 11.
Windows 11 support does not prove that the installer cannot launch on Windows 10; it defines what Boris FX officially supports. For a production system, that distinction is enough. If the workstation must remain on Windows 10, keeping a stable Pro 18 installation is safer than depending on an unsupported current setup.
The current trial is fully functional for 15 days and requires no credit card. Start it when you have real work ready. Test your audio interface, file formats, VST2/VST3/ARA plug-ins, scripts, batch jobs and any Pro 18 files you must reopen. A successful launch screen is not a migration test.
Should You Upgrade From Pro 18?
Upgrade now if you need a supported Windows 11 release, Boris FX support, local Text-to-Speech or a current license for a new workstation. Plus makes sense only if Melodyne, Vandal, VariVerb II or 3D Reverb are worth the tier difference to you.
Keep Pro 18 if it is activated, stable and complete for your work. The official transition policy says the MAGIX lifetime license remains valid. There is no reason to disturb a reliable production machine merely because the current name uses a year.
Test before paying if your decision depends on a specific bug, VST/ARA host behaviour or legacy script. No dedicated changelog proves that issue fixed. Run the exact action in the trial, render a result and compare it with Pro 18.
