**Mocha VEGAS is the light, VEGAS-only edition of Mocha that comes with VEGAS Pro Plus and VEGAS Pro Ultimate. Mocha Pro is the full product, and in VEGAS you get it only with Ultimate or as a separate plug-in license. Both share the same planar tracker, roto tools and AdjustTrack. The difference is what happens after the track: Mocha VEGAS hands its data to native VEGAS tools (Picture in Picture for screen inserts, up to five Bézier masks, Motion Tracking for stabilization), while Mocha Pro adds the Remove, Stabilize, Lens and Insert modules, PowerMesh, the 3D Camera Solver, 360 and stereo tools, a standalone app and export to other hosts.** If your jobs are screen replacements, tracked blurs, simple masks and stabilization, Plus is enough. If you need object removal, lens or mesh work, or tracks outside VEGAS, you need Mocha Pro, and moving from Plus to Ultimate costs $50 more a year or $200 more for a perpetual license at US list prices on October 21, 2026.

Here is the quickest way I tell the two apart. Mocha VEGAS tells VEGAS where something is and what shape it has, and VEGAS does the rest. Mocha Pro can also make new pixels: it fills a removed object from other frames, warps an insert over a bending surface and straightens a distorted lens. Since March 2026 one company owns both VEGAS Pro and Mocha, and my [Boris FX hub](https://soundforgepro.com/boris-fx/) shows where the rest of that range fits.

Below you will find the feature split, the exact handoff steps inside VEGAS, the limits that push people to Mocha Pro, a job-by-job table, the editions that include each tracker and the upgrade cost.

## Mocha VEGAS vs Mocha Pro: feature by feature

Boris FX publishes two comparisons. One is the [Mocha VEGAS comparison chart](https://vfx.borisfx.com/mochavegas), which lists 18 features as exclusive to Mocha Pro. The other is the compare table on the [Mocha Pro product page](https://borisfx.com/products/mocha-pro/), where Mocha VEGAS shares a column with Mocha AE and 14 rows mark it as missing a Mocha Pro feature. I merged both into one table.

The chart that lists AdjustTrack 2.0 and OpenColorIO as shared is undated and was written for VEGAS Pro 21, so treat those two rows as the chart's word rather than a current spec. The rest matches on both pages.

Because both editions use the same planar tracker and AdjustTrack, the split is less about how well a plane tracks and more about what you can do with the track afterwards. The one gap on the tracking side shows up on hard shots. According to the [Mocha User Guide](https://borisfx.com/documentation/mocha/), Mocha VEGAS shows only the planar tracking parameters and has no Preprocessing panel.

![Two-panel chart: planar tracking, roto and masking, AdjustTrack, GPU acceleration and the Essentials interface in both, tagged VEGAS Pro Plus; Remove, Stabilization, Lens, Insert, PowerMesh, 3D Camera Solver, 360/VR, stereo 3D, Area Brush and standalone app in Mocha Pro only, tagged Ultimate](https://storage.ghost.io/c/af/4b/af4b05d4-2e0b-4edc-8378-1e2a62fecc70/content/images/2026/10/feature-split.webp)

Same tracker core in both. Everything that builds new pixels sits on the Mocha Pro side.

## What Mocha VEGAS does inside VEGAS

Mocha VEGAS is an OFX plug-in that sits on a video event. You track in the Mocha window and then pass the result to tools VEGAS already has. The [VEGAS Pro 2026 help](https://cdn.borisfx.com/borisfx/Documentation/vegas/2026/en/content/topics/8-design/mochavegas.htm) and the [Mocha VEGAS Quick Start Guide](https://borisfx.com/documentation/mocha/mocha-vegas-quick-start-guide/) describe the same route:

1. Put the cursor at the start of the event and open the Video FX tab. Find Mocha Vegas in the Boris FX Mocha folder and drag its Default preset onto the event.
2. In the effect's controls, click **Launch Mocha UI**. Mocha opens with the clip loaded, in the same Essentials layout as Mocha AE.
3. Draw a quick mask over a flat area with the Spline, Rectangular or Elliptical tool. Pick the motion types (Translation, Scale, Rotation, Shear, Perspective), then click Track Forward or Track Backward.
4. Turn on the Surface and drag its corners onto the plane you want to replace. The Surface corners are the corner-pin data VEGAS receives, so set them before you export.
5. Choose File | Save Project, then File | Exit.
6. Back in the effect, expand Tracking Data and click **Create Track Data...**. If the project has more than one layer, pick the one you tracked.
7. Click **Apply Export**. It opens the VEGAS Motion Tracking dialog, where you send the data to VEGAS Picture in Picture on the insert clip.

Create Track Data reads one layer at a time, and the User Guide warns that generating keyframes can take a while on very long shots. If the corner-pinned insert looks stretched, the Quick Start fix is to set Pan/Crop's Maintain aspect ratio and Stretch to fill frame to No.

For shapes there are two routes.

- **Apply Matte** renders the Mocha shape as a matte inside the plug-in. In the Quick Start example you duplicate the clip onto a top track, turn on Apply Matte and pick the finger layer under Visible Layers…, so the finger sits back over the new screen.
- **Create Masks…**, with Apply Matte turned off, converts Mocha layers into keyframed native VEGAS Bézier masks that you can feather separately. VEGAS supports only five Bézier masks at a time, so Create Masks builds the first five and skips the rest. For more shapes, Boris FX points you back to Apply Matte.

To make a tracked blur, the 2026 help puts Pixelate, or any other effect, in front of the Bézier Masking plug-in that Create Masks added, then ticks Mask Effects under General Options.

Stabilization goes through VEGAS too. The help says you can apply the tracking data to the VEGAS Stabilization tool. A forum user who stabilized with Mocha VEGAS in VEGAS Pro 21 said it works well but needs the Picture in Picture FX on the event. Boris FX's own [Mocha VEGAS stabilization tutorial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNEn708GQvc) has chapters titled "Why not to use native Stabilizer" and "Fixing the edges", so expect to handle the borders yourself. The chart lists Auto-Fill only with Mocha Pro's Stabilize module.

![Step strip from Launch Mocha UI to Track Forward with the Surface on, Create Track Data, Apply Export, the Motion Tracking dialog and VEGAS Picture in Picture, with a side branch from Create Masks to Bezier Masking capped at five masks](https://storage.ghost.io/c/af/4b/af4b05d4-2e0b-4edc-8378-1e2a62fecc70/content/images/2026/10/mocha-vegas-handoff.webp)

The main path ends in Picture in Picture. Shapes take the Create Masks branch, which stops at five masks.

## Mocha VEGAS limitations, and what to do about each

- **No Remove module.** Mocha VEGAS cannot erase a boom, logo or person with clean plates. In August 2026 a Mocha VEGAS 2026.1.0 user asked how to remove a mic stand. The [forum replies](https://forum.borisfx.com/t/removing-a-foreground-object-throughout-a-video/25275) confirmed there is no Remove module and pointed to Mocha Pro. One reply added that even Remove would struggle with a moving singer behind the stand, because Mocha fills the gap with pixels from other frames. For a locked-off shot, Mocha Pro's Static Scene option removes objects without tracking. Plus has no equivalent.
- **Five native masks at a time.** Create Masks builds only the first five Bézier masks. Render any extra shapes with Apply Matte instead.
- **Planar-only tracking parameters and no Preprocessing.** Low-contrast or flickering shots get no pre-filter. Mocha Pro's Track module adds pre-processing, with filtering options and flicker removal before tracking.
- **One layer per Create Track Data pass.** Each tracked layer needs its own pass, and keyframe generation is slow on very long shots. I'd trim the event to the section you need before you track.
- **VEGAS Pro 21 or later.** The Create Masks and Create Track Data buttons need VEGAS Pro 21 or later.
- **VEGAS only.** There is no standalone app and no export of track, roto or 3D data to other hosts.
- **No Stabilize module.** You stabilize through VEGAS tools and deal with the edges yourself. Auto-Fill is Mocha Pro only.
- **Fewer roto helpers.** There are no magnetic, freehand or edge-snapping splines, no Area Brush and no PowerMesh. When a user asked for the magnetic spline in Mocha VEGAS, the [forum answer](https://forum.borisfx.com/t/magnetic-spline-in-mocha-vegas/17878) was that it is a Mocha Pro feature.

## What Mocha Pro adds when you run it inside VEGAS

In Ultimate, the Mocha Pro OFX plug-in appears under Boris FX Mocha as an Event FX, a Track FX and a Track Composite Mode. Launching it opens the full Mocha interface, which works like the standalone application, so every module is there. The biggest change is that Mocha Pro renders its module results straight back to the VEGAS timeline. The Mocha User Guide lists nine render options:

- Insert: Composite
- Insert: Cutout
- Remove
- Stabilize
- Stabilize: Unwarp
- Stabilize: Warp
- Lens: Distort
- Lens: Undistort
- Reorient

Four details are specific to VEGAS:

- **Inserting a second clip.** Set the insert track as the parent and the plate as the child, then apply Mocha through the parent's Custom track compositing mode.
- **Stereo.** Mocha Pro reads native VEGAS stereo projects, with a Mono/Stereo option.
- **The same handoff.** Mocha Pro has the same Create Track Data and Apply Export handoff to Picture in Picture as Mocha VEGAS. It did not always: in 2023 [Boris FX staff said the one-click integration would reach Mocha Pro later](https://forum.borisfx.com/t/will-deep-integration-with-vegas-come-to-mocha-pro-future/17076), and by March 2024 a user reported it in Mocha Pro 2023 OFX.
- **Running both.** Boris FX staff said Mocha Pro OFX and Mocha VEGAS run side by side in VEGAS with no issues, and they show up as separate entries in the Plug-in Chooser. One Mocha Pro owner [wrote that the bundled Mocha VEGAS](https://forum.borisfx.com/t/benefit-of-mocha-vegas/17965) lets them keep working while Mocha Pro is busy with another task.

Mocha Pro 2026.5 was announced on June 11, 2026\. It added Point Track ML to PowerMesh and AdjustTrack, and active Ultimate subscriptions got it as a complimentary update, according to the [Boris FX 2026.5 announcement](https://blog.borisfx.com/press/ai-point-tracking-speeds-up-complex-vfx-tracks-in-mocha-pro). That is a Mocha Pro feature. Boris FX does not say whether Mocha VEGAS gets it, so I would not count on it. Ultimate also brings Continuum, and my [Continuum vs Sapphire comparison](https://soundforgepro.com/boris-fx-continuum-vs-sapphire/) shows whether that changes the value for you.

## Which one you need, job by job

| Job | Mocha VEGAS in Plus? | Why, and the route |

| Put an insert on a bending surface (cloth, skin) | No | This needs PowerMesh and the Insert module with Mesh Warper, both Mocha Pro only. |
| Get a 3D camera for titles or objects | No | Use the 3D Camera Solver, which is Mocha Pro only. |

| Use the track in another host, or on a Mac or Linux machine | No | Export and the standalone app are Mocha Pro only. Ultimate's copy is reported to work in VEGAS only, so buy a separate Mocha Pro license. |

Mocha is only one part of what Plus and Ultimate add. My guide to the [plug-ins bundled with VEGAS Pro](https://soundforgepro.com/vegas-pro-plugins/) covers the rest of the bundle, from Continuum to CrumplePop.

## Which VEGAS Pro editions include Mocha VEGAS and Mocha Pro

| Edition | Mocha VEGAS | Mocha Pro plug-in | Also adds |
| ------------------ | ----------- | ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| VEGAS Pro | No | No | The base editor |
| VEGAS Pro Plus | Yes | No | CrumplePop plug-ins, Sound Forge, Particle Illusion |
| VEGAS Pro Ultimate | Yes | Yes | Everything in Plus, plus Continuum, CrumplePop Sound App and Optics |

That is the lineup on the [VEGAS Pro plans page](https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/vegas-pro/plans-pricing/). The VEGAS Pro 2026 help agrees: Mocha Vegas is in Plus and Ultimate and is integrated as an OFX plug-in. A VEGAS Pro license runs on up to two computers and activates when you sign in with a Boris FX account. Plus also includes Sound Forge, and my comparison of [how Sound Forge and VEGAS Pro split the work](https://soundforgepro.com/sound-forge-vs-vegas-pro/) matters if audio is part of the reason you upgrade.

How Mocha got into VEGAS:

- **2017.** Mocha OFX 5.5.2 became the first Mocha plug-in to officially support VEGAS Pro, as Boris FX [announced on CreativeCow](https://creativecow.net/forums/thread/mocha-552-offcially-supports-vegas-pro/). Before that, BCC filters in VEGAS could launch a lite Mocha from the PixelChooser to mask effects.
- **2023.** Mocha VEGAS debuted in VEGAS Pro 21 as a custom version of Mocha. [Videomaker's VEGAS Pro 21 coverage](https://www.videomaker.com/news/vegas-pro-21-comes-with-mocha-planar-tracking/) lists it in VEGAS Pro Suite ($299 perpetual) and Post Pro, but not in the $199 Edit bundle.
- **2024.** VEGAS Pro 22 shipped with Mocha VEGAS 10.0.6, going by the version strings users posted on the Boris FX forum.
- **September 9, 2025.** VEGAS Pro 23 shipped without Mocha VEGAS. [Movie Studio Zen's VEGAS Pro 23 review](https://www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/vegas-pro/vegas-pro-23-review) lists the bundled tracker among the removed features, and [the VEGAS Pro 23 review](https://soundforgepro.com/vegas-pro-23-review/) covers what else changed before Mocha Vegas returned in Plus.
- **March 30, 2026.** Boris FX [announced that it had acquired VEGAS Pro, Sound Forge and ACID Pro](https://blog.borisfx.com/press/boris-fx-acquires-vegas-pro-sound-forge-and-acid-pro), with Mocha Vegas built into Plus and Mocha Pro available in Ultimate. The release described Ultimate as a subscription plan, but the store now also sells a perpetual Ultimate license.
- **2026.** Forum posts show Mocha VEGAS at version 2026.1.0, which suggests the bundled tracker now follows Mocha's release numbering.

VEGAS Pro 2026 requires Windows 11, according to its [system requirements](https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/vegas-pro/system-requirements/). Boris FX's [Mocha Pro supported-hosts page](https://borisfx.com/products/mocha-pro/supported-hosts/) still lists only VEGAS Pro 22 and 21 on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11\. [CG Channel's Mocha Pro 2026.5 coverage](https://www.cgchannel.com/2026/06/boris-fx-releases-mocha-pro-2026-5/) gives VEGAS Pro 21 and later. I read the hosts page as out of date rather than as a warning, since Ultimate 2026 ships with the Mocha Pro plug-in.

## Upgrade path and price, in short

The Boris FX store lists no standalone Mocha VEGAS product and no dedicated Plus-to-Ultimate crossgrade, so upgrading means changing plans. Here are the US list prices on October 21, 2026:

- **Plus:** $24.95 a month, $149.95 a year or $299.95 perpetual.
- **Ultimate:** $39.95 a month, $199.95 a year or $499.95 perpetual.
- **Base VEGAS Pro, with no Mocha:** $99.95 a year.

Moving from Plus to Ultimate to get Mocha Pro costs $15 more a month, $50 more a year or $200 more for a perpetual license. Plus is also the cheapest way to get any Mocha in VEGAS, at $50 a year over the base plan. Perpetual Plus and Ultimate include a year of upgrades and support. After that, renewal costs $199.95 for Plus and $249.95 for Ultimate.

The alternative is a standalone Mocha Pro plug-in license at $48 a month, $325 a year or $765 perpetual. The [Boris FX store](https://borisfx.com/store/?product=mocha-pro&host=adobe&purchase-options=new-annual-subscription) labels the single-host OFX license for Nuke, Fusion, VEGAS Pro and other OFX hosts.

Inside VEGAS, Ultimate is the much cheaper route, but there is a catch. Users on the Boris FX forum [report that the Mocha Pro and Continuum in Ultimate are licensed for VEGAS only](https://forum.borisfx.com/t/vegas-pro-plus-crumplepop-vst-in-trial-mode/21574), and one said Mocha Pro showed as unlicensed in DaVinci Resolve. A forum staff member confirmed in that thread that the Ultimate Continuum is locked to VEGAS; I found no official statement on Mocha Pro, so I would not buy Ultimate to get Mocha for another host.

My [Mocha Pro price breakdown](https://soundforgepro.com/mocha-pro-price/#vegas-pro) has the full license maths, including renewals and when the standalone license makes sense. Sale prices change all of these numbers, so check my [Boris FX Black Friday guide](https://soundforgepro.com/boris-fx-black-friday/) before you pay the full difference.

## Test results: what the documentation and user reports show

No published benchmark times Mocha VEGAS against Mocha Pro for tracking speed or accuracy. There is a reason for that: Boris FX lists the same planar tracker, AdjustTrack and GPU tracking in both, so the useful test is capability, meaning which jobs each one finishes inside VEGAS. I combined 22 distinct sources and counted how many agree on each finding. They are seven Boris FX and VEGAS documentation and product pages, Videomaker, two Boris FX tutorial videos and 12 Boris FX forum threads.

The composite result is clear. For the jobs VEGAS can finish itself (inserts, tracked effects, masks and stabilization), Mocha VEGAS is a complete tool. Every source that covers removal sends you to Mocha Pro. The other Mocha Pro advantages, such as lens, mesh, 3D, 360 and export, are documented features rather than speed claims. Videomaker called Mocha a powerful planar tracker and welcomed it for stabilization in VEGAS Pro 21\. Forum users have been just as positive about the integration.

## Known problems and fixes

These come from Boris FX forum threads, so treat them as user and staff reports rather than official release notes:

- **Tracking stops early (VEGAS Pro 21, Mocha VEGAS 9.5.8).** In a [December 2023 thread](https://forum.borisfx.com/t/tracking-layer-terminated-prematurely/17873), a user cited a known issue and worked around it by turning off Use GPU Processing in Mocha's preferences. Tracking was slower but finished.
- **Blank Mocha window (VEGAS Pro 22).** In an [October 2024 thread](https://forum.borisfx.com/t/mocha-pro-wont-load-in-vegas-22/19057), staff traced it to the second monitor and advised keeping Mocha on the primary display.
- **Memory climbs when rendering with matte refine.** Staff [acknowledged the leak in May 2026](https://forum.borisfx.com/t/memory-leak-when-rendering-w-mocha-in-vegas/23276) and said a fix was in testing. The thread does not confirm when it shipped.
- **"Copy of motion data failed" when sending data to Picture in Picture.** Reinstalling VEGAS Pro fixed it for [one user in August 2024](https://forum.borisfx.com/t/copy-of-motion-data-failed/18862), who was running VEGAS Pro 21 with Mocha Pro 2024.5 OFX.
- **Mocha VEGAS missing from the FX list.** Check your edition first, because base VEGAS Pro has no Mocha. In a [2023 thread](https://forum.borisfx.com/t/how-to-get-mocha-vegas/17251), one staff member suggested reinstalling VEGAS, while another said it was a separate install. The 2026 help now describes it as integrated.

## Verdict

I'd stay on VEGAS Pro Plus if your Mocha work is screen replacements, tracked blurs and pixelation, masked corrections and stabilization. Mocha VEGAS does those jobs with the same tracker as Mocha Pro and passes the result to VEGAS tools you already know. Move to Ultimate, at $50 more a year at list price, the first time a job needs object removal, lens correction, a mesh warp or Auto-Fill stabilization; Continuum comes with it. Buy the standalone Mocha Pro license at $325 a year only if you also track in another host or on a Mac or Linux machine, because users report that Ultimate's copy is tied to VEGAS. If you are on base VEGAS Pro, Plus is the cheapest way to get any Mocha at all.

## FAQ

### Can I use Mocha in VEGAS Pro 14 or another older version?

Mocha has officially supported VEGAS Pro as an OFX host since Mocha OFX 5.5.2 in 2017\. That date tells you nothing about current releases, though. Mocha VEGAS first appeared in VEGAS Pro 21, its Create Masks and Create Track Data buttons need VEGAS Pro 21 or later, and CG Channel lists VEGAS Pro 21 and later for Mocha Pro 2026.5\. For current Mocha, that means VEGAS Pro 21 or newer.

### Is there a free trial?

VEGAS Pro has a free 15-day trial with full access to all features, according to the plans page FAQ. Mocha Pro on its own has a free 14-day trial, which you register after installing it through the Boris FX Hub.

### How is Mocha VEGAS different from Mocha AE?

They are the same tier for different hosts. [Mocha AE](https://borisfx.com/products/mocha-ae-cc-mocha-for-after-effects/) is the lite edition bundled with Adobe After Effects, and on the Mocha Pro compare table it shares a column with Mocha VEGAS. Boris FX's Quick Start says the Mocha VEGAS interface is the same as Mocha AE's and opens in the Essentials layout.

### Does the Mocha Pro in Ultimate work in DaVinci Resolve or After Effects?

Users on the Boris FX forum report that it does not. They say the Mocha Pro and Continuum in Ultimate are licensed for VEGAS only, and one user saw Mocha Pro come up as unlicensed in Resolve. For another OFX host, the single-host Mocha Pro license costs $325 a year and is labeled for Nuke, Fusion, VEGAS Pro and other OFX hosts. After Effects already includes Mocha AE.
