**iZotope RX works in Logic Pro in three ways: as Audio Units inserts on a channel strip, as RX Spectral Editor (ARA) on an audio track, and as Logic's external sample editor, where Shift-W sends a region to the RX Audio Editor. The inserts come with every RX 12 edition and run natively on Apple silicon. The Spectral Editor and the Audio Editor need RX Standard or Advanced, and the Spectral Editor also needs Logic running in Rosetta on an Apple silicon Mac.** Logic Pro 12 is on iZotope's list of confirmed hosts in the [RX 12 release notes](https://www.izotope.com/pages/release-notes/rx-standard), and the current version, RX 12.1.0, came out on October 15, 2026.

My default setup is short: keep light, low-latency fixes on inserts, send anything surgical or heavy to the RX Audio Editor with Shift-W, and treat the ARA Spectral Editor as a convenience for Intel Macs or for projects that already run in Rosetta. I have two reasons. The ARA route ties Logic to Rosetta, which Apple is winding down after macOS 27\. And the heaviest RX modules were never built for real-time playback. Below are the steps for each route, the limits that catch people out, and a checklist for when RX won't show up or plays silence.

## Three ways to use RX in Logic Pro, and which to pick

The [RX 12 overview](https://docs.izotope.com/rx12/en/rx-overview.html) lists AU and AU ARA among the installer's plug-in formats, both Mac only. Logic loads ordinary AU inserts from any edition. For Logic, iZotope's RX 12 release notes list AU ARA host support for one plug-in, RX Spectral Editor. The third route skips plug-in formats entirely: Logic hands the audio file to the RX Audio Editor application and takes it back when you overwrite it.

![Three cards comparing RX routes in Logic Pro: AU insert via Audio FX, Audio Units, iZotope in all editions, native on Apple silicon, real time; Spectral Editor (ARA) as first insert on an audio track, Standard or Advanced, Logic in Rosetta, select a clip and press Play; RX Audio Editor via Shift-W, Standard or Advanced, native on Apple silicon, overwrites the file; an arrow runs from Real time to Offline](https://storage.ghost.io/c/af/4b/af4b05d4-2e0b-4edc-8378-1e2a62fecc70/content/images/2026/10/rx-logic-three-routes.webp)

The three routes run from real-time inserts to offline file editing. Edition and Rosetta decide which ones you can use.

| Route | RX 12 editions | Logic on Apple silicon | Changes the audio file? | Best job | Main trap |
| ------------------------- | ---------------------------- | ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| AU insert | Elements, Standard, Advanced | Native | No, it processes on playback until you bounce | Steady noise, hum, clicks and clipping on a track | Heavy modules add latency or overload the project |
| RX Spectral Editor (ARA) | Standard, Advanced | Rosetta only | No, and Reset returns the clip to its unprocessed state | Painting out a cough, squeak or click without leaving the timeline | Silence or an empty display on unsupported tracks and regions |
| RX Audio Editor (Shift-W) | Standard, Advanced | Native | Yes, Overwrite Original File is destructive | Full repair sessions and modules with no AU version | Every region that uses the file changes |

One module deserves a note. The [RX 12 Music Rebalance manual page](https://docs.izotope.com/rx12/en/music-rebalance.html) documents it as an Audio Editor module and as a VST3 and AU ARA plug-in, but iZotope's overview documents Logic ARA support only for Spectral Editor. In Logic I would run Music Rebalance in the RX Audio Editor and render with its Better / Offline or Best / Offline quality mode rather than Good / Real-time. The settings themselves are covered in the [Music Rebalance settings and stem split guide](https://soundforgepro.com/izotope-rx-music-rebalance/).

## What each RX 12 edition gives a Logic user

The edition decides which routes exist at all. RX Elements is six plug-ins: De-click, De-clip, De-hum, De-reverb, Repair Assistant and Voice De-noise. It has no RX Audio Editor, so a Logic user with Elements has the insert route and nothing else. Standard adds the Spectral Editor plug-in, the Audio Editor and more plug-ins, De-bleed among them. Advanced adds three modules that ship only as AAX AudioSuite: Ambience Match, De-rustle and Scene Rebalance. Logic does not load AAX, so in Logic those three are reachable only inside the RX Audio Editor. That last point is my reading of the format list rather than a line in iZotope's documentation.

| In Logic Pro | RX 12 Elements | RX 12 Standard | RX 12 Advanced |
| ------------------------------------------ | -------------- | ------------------ | ------------------ |
| AU inserts | Six plug-ins | Yes, more plug-ins | Yes, more plug-ins |
| RX Spectral Editor (ARA) | No | Yes | Yes |
| RX Audio Editor via Shift-W | No | Yes | Yes |
| De-bleed plug-in | No | Yes | Yes |
| Ambience Match, De-rustle, Scene Rebalance | No | No | Audio Editor only |
| US list price, October 21, 2026 | $99 | $399 | $1,399 |

Those prices come from the [RX 12 Standard page on iZotope's US store](https://www.izotope.com/products/rx-standard), read on October 21, 2026\. The same store listed the upgrade from Elements to Standard at $299, the update from RX 11 Standard at $129 and the crossgrade from any paid iZotope product at $349\. Regional prices differ and promotions move them, so check the store before you buy. The edition question goes well beyond Logic, and I keep it in the [RX 12 Elements vs Standard vs Advanced comparison](https://soundforgepro.com/izotope-rx-elements-vs-standard-vs-advanced/). Trials and license rules are in the [RX price, trial and license guide](https://soundforgepro.com/izotope-rx-price-trial-license/).

## Load RX as an Audio Units insert

This is the route that works on every edition, and the steps follow [iZotope's article on using its plug-ins in Logic](https://support.izotope.com/hc/en-us/articles/47669697168141-Using-iZotope-plug-ins-in-Apple-Logic-Pro):

1. Open the mixer, or the channel strip in the inspector, for an audio or instrument track.
2. Click the Audio FX button on the channel strip.
3. Choose Audio Units, then the iZotope sub-category, then the RX module.
4. Pick the channel format, mono or stereo, from the last sub-menu.

Logic does not need Rosetta for this. iZotope says all of its currently shipping products run natively on Apple silicon in applicable formats, and the 12.1.0 release notes include a fix aimed at Logic running natively: the expanded advanced panel of the Dialogue Isolate plug-in came up empty after hiding and showing the plug-in window. If you saw that on 12.0, the update fixes it.

For noise on a voice or vocal track, my first insert is Voice De-noise. The [Voice De-noise manual page](https://docs.izotope.com/rx12/en/voice-de-noise.html) describes it as zero-latency adaptive noise removal for a DAW track, and says the Spectral De-noise plug-in is far more resource intensive and uses higher latency. When the noise is too complex for an insert, the [RX background-noise workflow](https://soundforgepro.com/remove-background-noise-izotope-rx/) covers which module to reach for next.

## Real time vs offline: why RX overloads Logic and what about mastering

RX is a restoration toolkit first. The manual page on [using RX plug-ins](https://docs.izotope.com/rx12/en/using-rx-plug-ins.html) warns that some processing modes are very CPU intensive and delay the signal. With Enable Delay Compensation switched on in the plug-in's Latency menu, RX reports that delay to the host and shows it as Total System Delay in samples and milliseconds. iZotope's [latency and delay compensation article](https://support.izotope.com/hc/en-us/articles/47669713012237-Latency-and-Delay-Compensation) adds the important part: the plug-in only reports the offset, and the host has to compensate. If you want that sample figure in milliseconds at your session rate, the [audio latency calculator](https://soundforgepro.com/audio-latency-calculator/) does the conversion.

This is also the answer to the mastering question. In a [Native Instruments community thread about RX 11 overloading Logic](https://community.native-instruments.com/discussion/41971/rx-11-does-not-work-with-logic-pro-x-11-and-their-is-no-support-anywhere-to-get), a staff member told the user that RX "is in no way, shape or form designed to be used on the master bus in real-time", and added that many of the noise-reduction plug-ins need significant latency while some, such as Voice De-noise, are zero latency. Repair belongs on the tracks or on the file before the mix. Mastering on the stereo bus is a different job for a different tool.

Dialogue Isolate shows the same pattern in RX 12\. In a [May 2026 thread on Dialogue Isolate latency](https://community.native-instruments.com/discussion/50782/rx-12-dialogue-isolate-latency), a staff member wrote that the module is best used offline in the RX Editor's Best / Offline quality mode, and that the plug-in version is there for convenience, with latency the DAW has to compensate for. The [Dialogue Isolate controls and settings guide](https://soundforgepro.com/izotope-rx-dialogue-isolate/) goes through that offline workflow.

When an insert sounds right, print it. Logic's [Bounce Regions in Place](https://support.apple.com/guide/logicpro/bounce-regions-in-place-lgcp8ae5826e/mac) sits under File > Bounce > Regions in Place, or Control-click the regions and choose Bounce Regions in Place. Apple says the bounce runs offline for audio and software instrument tracks with internal sound sources. Bounce to a new track and mute the source, so the original stays one click away. Then remove the RX insert and the CPU load goes with it.

## Set up RX Spectral Editor (ARA) in Logic

The [RX 12 Spectral Editor manual page](https://docs.izotope.com/rx12/en/rx-spectral-editor.html) is clear about Logic: the plug-in is available there only as an ARA 2.0 plug-in, in Rosetta only, in Logic Pro 10.7 or later, and iZotope recommends the latest Logic version. On an Apple silicon Mac, open Logic in Rosetta first, as described in the next section. On an Intel Mac, skip that step. Then:

1. Add RX Spectral Editor (ARA) as the first insert on an audio track. Not an instrument track, not a bus.
2. Select a clip in Logic and start playback. The clip appears in the spectrogram once playback starts.
3. Choose a mode: Attenuate, Replace, Gain, De-click or De-hum.
4. Draw a selection around the problem sound in the spectrogram.
5. Set the mode's controls and click Process, or press Command-Return.
6. To work on another clip, select it and start playback again. Trimmed clips show in the spectrogram the same way they look in Logic.

![RX 12 Spectral Editor (ARA) window with the Manual preset menu, Attenuate mode selected, a dashed selection box at about 9.5 seconds on the spectrogram, Strength 1.0, Region 100, Weight 0.0, Direction set to the horizontal arrow, and a Process button; orange markers 1 to 4 point to Attenuate, Strength, Region and Direction](https://storage.ghost.io/c/af/4b/af4b05d4-2e0b-4edc-8378-1e2a62fecc70/content/images/2026/10/rx-spectral-editor-ara-logic.webp)

Attenuate mode with a selection drawn: 1 mode, 2 Strength, 3 Region, 4 Direction. Process applies the change to the selection.

Attenuate is the mode you will use most. It compares the selection with the audio around it and pulls dissimilar sound toward its surroundings, without resynthesizing anything. Its controls:

- **Strength** sets the amount of attenuation.
- **Region** sets how much of the surrounding audio is used for the interpolation.
- **Weight** leans on the audio before or after the selection.
- **Direction** picks where the repair material comes from: Horizontal uses the audio left and right of the selection, Vertical uses the audio above and below it, and 2D uses all four sides.

Replace resynthesizes badly damaged sections of tonal audio, such as gaps. Gain boosts or cuts the selection by a set number of decibels, and De-hum removes persistent tonal noise such as AC hum. For mouth clicks, De-click has a Low Latency algorithm that the manual calls suitable for real-time work. If an edit goes wrong, Reset reverts all changes to the unprocessed audio. If you are new to selections and spectrograms, the [RX 12 tutorial for beginners](https://soundforgepro.com/izotope-rx-12-tutorial-beginners/) walks through a first repair in the full editor, and the same habits carry over.

## Apple silicon: the Rosetta requirement and the macOS 27 horizon

Apple's [Logic Pro and Rosetta support article](https://support.apple.com/en-us/102082) says you shouldn't need Rosetta to run Logic, but third-party software that uses ARA needs Logic running in Rosetta. If Rosetta is not installed yet, Apple's route is:

1. Quit Logic Pro.
2. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
3. Type /System/Library/CoreServices/Rosetta2 Updater.app and click Go.
4. Double-click Rosetta 2 Updater and follow the prompts.

Then, as iZotope's article on [opening your recording software in Rosetta 2](https://support.izotope.com/hc/en-us/articles/47669708525325-Opening-your-Recording-Software-using-Rosetta-2) shows, select Logic Pro in Applications, choose Get Info and tick Open using Rosetta. Untick it to go back to native mode. Apple's [Logic Pro release notes](https://support.apple.com/en-us/109503) say a recent update stopped Rosetta mode from triggering an Audio Units scan when you return to Apple silicon mode, so switching back and forth is less painful than it was.

The bigger issue is time. Apple's [Rosetta documentation for developers](https://developer.apple.com/documentation/apple-silicon/about-the-rosetta-translation-environment) says Rosetta stays available as a general-purpose tool through macOS 27, and that after that only a subset aimed at older games will remain. iZotope's [macOS 27 note for Product Portal users](https://support.izotope.com/hc/en-us/articles/49617247785485-macOS-27-Compatibility-Note-for-iZotope-Product-Portal-Users) repeats the same end point for general Rosetta support. Product Portal itself needs Rosetta 2 on Apple silicon Macs, according to iZotope's [Apple silicon compatibility article](https://support.izotope.com/hc/en-us/articles/47669673300621-iZotope-Compatibility-with-Apple-silicon), which matters for installs and authorization. If those break, the [Product Portal install and authorization fixes](https://soundforgepro.com/izotope-product-portal-authorization-install-fixes/) cover them.

Today the RX 12 system requirements run from macOS Sonoma 14.7 through macOS Tahoe, and iZotope's [macOS compatibility article](https://support.izotope.com/hc/en-us/articles/47669667496333-Compatibility-of-iZotope-Products-on-macOS) lists all three RX 12 editions as compatible with Tahoe. macOS 27 is not on that list, and the manual still describes the Logic ARA route as Rosetta only. My recommendation follows from that: use the Spectral Editor in Logic if it helps you now, but don't build a long-term workflow on it alone. Learn the Shift-W route as well, because it runs natively.

## Spectral Editor limits that make it empty, silent or stuck

Most "RX Spectral Editor doesn't work in Logic" reports trace back to a documented limit. Here are the ones from the manual's Spectral Editor page, with the fix I would try first.

| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
| --------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------- |
| Can't add it, or it never shows audio | Not the first insert, or placed on a software instrument track or a bus | Make it the first insert on an audio track |
| Spectrogram stays empty | Audio loads only during playback | Select the clip and start playback |
| Edits don't show up on playback | Data updates only after a restart of playback | Stop playback and start it again |
| Silence from a stereo region | Stereo file on a mono track | Put the region on a stereo track |
| Silence from one region only | Region sample rate differs from the session rate | Convert the file to the session rate first |
| Region won't process | Apple Loops, compressed audio, flex audio or a reversed region | Bounce the region in place first |
| Horizontal, 2D or Replace behaves like Vertical | Selection longer than 10 seconds | Split the job into shorter selections |
| Undo changed other copies of a clip | Undo applies to all non-unique copies | Bounce copies before editing them separately |
| Undo history is gone | History clears when the session is saved | Use Reset, which reverts all changes |
| Comp region is blank | The comp region at the top does not appear | Select and process the individual takes |
| No automation, host presets or Selection Based Processing | Not supported in the ARA plug-in | Do that job in the RX Audio Editor |

Bounce in place shows up in that table more than once, so it is worth a habit: bounce to a new track and keep the source muted. Apple's release notes also say a recent Logic update fixed how ARA handles comps when a project is saved and reloaded. If comp edits misbehaved after reopening a project, update Logic before you chase anything else.

## Use the RX Audio Editor as Logic's external sample editor

This is the route I would build a Logic workflow around. It needs Standard or Advanced, it runs natively, and it gives you every module and the offline quality modes. The setup is a one-time step, and the round trip takes a few clicks after that.

![Four numbered steps: 1 Logic Pro, Settings, Audio, File Editor, Choose; 2 Edit, Open in RX 12 or Shift-W; 3 File, Overwrite Original File; 4 close the tab and go back to Logic; a warning strip below reads Back up first: every region using the file changes](https://storage.ghost.io/c/af/4b/af4b05d4-2e0b-4edc-8378-1e2a62fecc70/content/images/2026/10/logic-rx-external-editor-roundtrip.webp)

The Shift-W round trip. Back up the file first, because the overwrite reaches every region that uses it.

1. Choose Logic Pro > Settings > Audio, click File Editor, then click Choose and pick the RX 12 Audio Editor application, as Apple's [guide to external sample editors](https://support.apple.com/guide/logicpro/lgcp2158eb9a/mac) describes. iZotope's own [article on using RX as Logic's audio file editor](https://support.izotope.com/hc/en-us/articles/47669778649485-How-to-use-RX-as-an-audio-file-editor-with-Logic-Pro-X) still shows the older Logic Pro X route through Preferences and Show Advanced Tools. Current Logic uses the Settings path.
2. Back up the audio file. iZotope warns that overwriting is a destructive edit.
3. Select the region and choose Edit > Open in RX from the Audio Track Editor menu bar, or press Shift-W.
4. Repair the audio in RX.
5. Choose File > Overwrite Original File, the step the [RX 12 manual's RX Connect page](https://docs.izotope.com/rx12/en/rx-connect.html) gives for Logic.
6. Close the tab, switch back to Logic and wait for the waveform to update. iZotope's support article says the changes take effect after you quit RX, so if the waveform doesn't update, quit RX.

Apple's guide explains why the backup matters: after the save, Logic updates the edited audio wherever regions based on that file are in use. If you have copied a take across a song, every copy changes.

Two prompts in RX cause most of the lost edits. According to the [RX 12 manual on working with files](https://docs.izotope.com/rx12/en/working-with-files.html), Save overwrites the original on disk for WAV and AIFF, but opens the Export dialog for compressed formats. If you close an unsaved tab and answer Yes, RX saves an RX Document (.rxdoc), which only the RX Audio Editor can open, so Logic never sees the change. And with "Reopen previous audio files when app starts" switched on, RX closes without a prompt and keeps unsaved changes in its session data folder. Overwrite the original first, then close.

## Why RX Connect is not the Logic route

RX Connect is the round-trip plug-in some hosts use to send a selection to the RX Audio Editor. iZotope's [RX Connect FAQ](https://support.izotope.com/hc/en-us/articles/47669779599629-RX-Connect-FAQ) splits hosts into two groups, and Logic Pro sits in the group that uses RX as an external editor, not the group that uses the RX Connect plug-in. The RX 12 manual also notes that some hosts don't support RX Connect for round-trip editing. In Logic, the external sample editor with Shift-W does that job.

## RX not working in Logic: a short checklist

1. **Check the edition.** Elements has no Spectral Editor and no Audio Editor, only the six inserts.
2. **Check the menu.** RX inserts live under Audio FX > Audio Units > iZotope. If a plug-in is missing or shows "failed validation", open Logic Pro > Settings > Plug-in Manager, select it and click Reset & Rescan Selection, as Apple's [guide to plug-ins missing in Logic](https://support.apple.com/en-us/122179) describes. Full Audio Unit Reset is the broader option: Logic rescans every Audio Unit when you reopen it. iZotope suggests it for Spectral Editor problems in Logic 10.7 and later.
3. **Spectral Editor missing on an Apple silicon Mac?** Logic is running natively. Turn on Open using Rosetta and relaunch.
4. **Spectral Editor silent or empty?** Check first insert, audio track, stereo region on a stereo track, matching sample rate, then start playback.
5. **Dialogue Isolate's advanced panel empty in native Logic?** Update to RX 12.1.0.
6. **Edits from the Audio Editor never reach Logic?** You probably saved an .rxdoc. Reopen it in RX, overwrite the original file, and quit RX if the waveform still doesn't update.
7. **Open in RX gone from the Edit menu?** Choose the RX 12 Audio Editor again under Logic Pro > Settings > Audio > File Editor. In a [Logic Pro Help thread](https://www.logicprohelp.com/forums/topic/156733-izotope-rx-11-editor-and-logic-107-integration/) on RX 11 and Logic 10.7, the command vanished after every round trip until the editor was selected again, and RX opened without the region's audio.
8. **Project overloads?** Move the heavy module offline: the Audio Editor, or a bounce in place.
9. **Very old RX on a new Mac?** In one [community thread](https://community.native-instruments.com/discussion/41310/i-downloaded-rx-8-through-the-product-portal-but-logic-pro-doesnt-find-it), RX 6 Elements never appeared in Logic on a new Apple silicon Mac, and other users put it down to that version no longer being supported. The [RX 12 vs RX 11 comparison](https://soundforgepro.com/izotope-rx-12-vs-rx-11/) covers what an update costs.

If the plug-ins don't show up in any host, the [RX plugins not showing fixes](https://soundforgepro.com/izotope-rx-plugins-not-showing/) go through installers, formats and scan paths in more depth. If Logic or RX quits outright, start with the [RX crash and won't-open fixes](https://soundforgepro.com/izotope-rx-keeps-crashing-wont-open/).

## Test results: what users and reviewers report about RX in Logic

No published source gives Logic-specific CPU, latency or render-time figures for RX, so these test results are a count of outcomes, not an average. The composite result draws on ten independent reports read on October 20 and 21, 2026: one magazine review, five Native Instruments community threads, one Facebook group reply and three YouTube video descriptions. Several date from RX 10 and RX 11, so I read them for patterns rather than version-specific detail.

The only latency number in the set comes from one RX 12 trial user: the Live Professor 2 host reported Dialogue Isolate at 85.3 ms, against 42.3 ms in RX 11\. That reading comes from a different host with unstated settings, so it is a single attributed example, not a Logic figure. It does agree with the staff advice in the same thread to run Dialogue Isolate offline.

My verdict: in Logic, RX is an editor-first tool. Put Voice De-noise and the lighter fixes on inserts. Do surgical and heavy work in the RX Audio Editor through Shift-W, with a backup of the file. Keep the Spectral Editor (ARA) for Intel Macs or for projects already running in Rosetta. If you own Elements, the inserts are the whole story, and for steady noise, hum and clicks they cover a lot. Standard is the edition that opens the editor route, and that is the one I would point a Logic user toward. For the wider view of RX 12, the [RX 12 review](https://soundforgepro.com/izotope-rx-12-review/) weighs the editions and the upgrade, and the [iZotope RX hub](https://soundforgepro.com/izotope-rx/) collects every module guide on the site.
